Roto Mold Production Manager
Summary
The Manufacturing Production Manager plays a critical role in overseeing daily production operations, focusing on safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency while fostering a Lean Manufacturing culture. This role is highly engaged with production teams spending approximately 80% of time on your feet on the production floor to actively support, coach and lead production coordinators and teams. The Production Manager will drive Lean initiatives aimed at reducing waste, increasing productivity, and streamlining processes to meet or exceed customer expectations. This position collaborates with cross-functional teams to align resources and implement continuous improvement strategies, ensuring optimal output, cost-effectiveness, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Production Oversight and Coordination: Plan, organize, and optimize day-to-day manufacturing operations, coordinating with Production Coordinators to ensure best practices are applied consistently to meet or exceed customer expectations through effective team support and on-floor presence.
- Support and Coaching of Shift Leads: Act as a mentor to Production Coordinators, guiding them to effectively support their teams, resolve issues, and maintain safety and quality standards. Ensure shift leads are equipped with the tools and training they need to manage their shifts successfully.
- Train, Mentor, and Onboard: Actively participate in onboarding, training and developing team members, including Production Supervisors to enhance skills, improve productivity and ensure consistent adherence to safety and quality standards on the production floor.
- Floor engagement (80%): Spend the majority of your time working on your feet on the production floor, engaging with both shift leads and team members to support real-time problem-solving, maintain workflow and reinforce safety practices.
- Resource and Project Assessment: Work with Production Coordinators to assess resource and project requirements, ensuring alignment between production capabilities, customer needs, and company goals.
- Goal Setting and Motivation: Set clear performance goals in collaboration with the Production Coordinators and support them in motivating and guiding production team members to achieve or exceed these goals.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Coordinate closely with HR, Maintenance, Purchasing, Shipping & Receiving, and other teams to streamline operations and ensure interdepartmental alignment.
- Resource Optimization and Downtime Minimization: Collaborate with shift leads to evaluate machine resources and maintain continuous production with minimal downtime.
- Quality and Timeliness: Oversee Production Coordinators to ensure high-quality production output and on-time shipping in line with customer expectations.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead and inspire Production Coordinators in continuous improvement efforts, driving initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce scrap, and implement best practices.
- Strategic Alignment and Performance Monitoring: Develop and implement strategies aligned with company goals, monitor operational performance, and collaborate with Productions Coordinators to take corrective action as needed.
- Employee Development and Engagement: Manage and develop Coordinators and production teams, promoting a collaborative and engaged team environment.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety regulations, promoting and maintaining a safe working environment.
- Metrics & Performance Tracking: Utilize systems to monitor productivity, standards, and performance metrics, ensuring effective resource utilization and productivity.
- Employee Relations: Address escalated team member concerns and work to maintain open communication and a positive team atmosphere.
- Learning & Adaptation: Stay informed on industry best practices, implementing relevant concepts to continually improve operations.
- Additional Responsibilities: Take on other responsibilities as required to meet business needs, including work hour flexibility to spend time with off shifts.
Desired Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
- Experience: 5+ years in a manufacturing production leadership role with demonstrated experience working with Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Leadership Skills: Proven leadership and supervisory skills, with a track record of fostering a Lean-focused, collaborative team culture.
- Knowledge of Business and Lean Manufacturing Principles: Strong understanding of business and manufacturing principles including HR practices, resource allocation, efficiency optimization, Lean Manufacturing principles, and waste reduction.
- Technical Expertise: Familiarity with industry standard equipment and technical processes, with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize machinery in collaboration with Maintenance or other teams.
- Safety, Quality, and Production Knowledge: In-depth knowledge on safety protocols, quality standards, productivity measurements, demand planning, and inventory management, with a focus on Lean efficiency.
- Digital Literacy: Proficient in MS Office products, ERP systems and tools to track and manage productivity metrics.
- Accountability: Ability to create accountability and set a strong example for production floor staff and shift leads, modeling manufacturing best practices and a safety-first approach.
- Self-Directed: Capable of working with limited supervision, making decisions in real time, and adapting to production floor needs.
- Deadline Management: Skilled in handling and leading through the pressures of meeting production deadlines, with an ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
- Organization and Problem-solving Skills: Excellent organizational skills and adept at identifying, analyzing and resolving operational issues efficiently.
- Project Management Skills: Strong project management skills to drive Lean initiative, continuous improvement projects, and cross-functional collaboration.
